MONTAGUE TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING

October 23, 2001

Minutes

 

Mayor Butto called the session to order at 8:00 p.m. and opened the meeting, stating that the meeting was being held in compliance with the Open Meetings Act, P>L> 1975, c. 231, and has been duly advertised.

The Clerk was asked to call the roll.

Present were: Committeewoman Kaman, Committeeman Zitone,

Committeeman Barbagallo, Mayor Butto

Clerk Felter, Atty. Murphy

Absent: Committeeman Krebs

All present were asked to join in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Approval of Minutes: Executive Session Minutes September 26, 2001

Regular Session Minutes September 25, 2001

Committeeman Zitone made a motion to approve the above mentioned minutes.

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo seconded the motion.

The motion was carried by a unanimous voice vote.

Old Business

Sheriff=s Office of Sussex County - E.S. Danielson, MA CEM, Director 9-1-1 Calls (Multiple) October 8, 2001

The Committee noted receipt of a letter from E.S. Danielson, Director of 9-1-1 explaining the circumstances of the reports of an accident on Clove Road questioned by Committeewoman Kaman.

New Business

Committeewoman Kaman suggested to the Committee that it might be

beneficial to have Eric Snyder, the Township Grant Writer, investigate submitting a small cities application in conjunction with Sandyston Township. The Committee agreed as long as it was understood that there would be no commitments made.

Approval of Vouchers - Payment of Bills:

Committeeman Zitone made a motion to pay the bills.

Committeewoman Kaman seconded the motion.

The motion was carried by a unanimous roll call vote:

Ayes: Committeewoman Kaman, Committeeman Zitone

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo, Mayor Butto

Nays: None

Absent: Committeeman Krebs

Correspondence:

Thank You - Dorothy Ames

The Committee reviewed and noted receipt of the above mentioned correspondence.

Public Participation

Committeeman Zitone made a motion to open public participation.

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo seconded the motion.

The motion was carried by a unanimous voice vote.

Desmond Finegan:

Mr. Finegan advised the Committee that the Montague Seniors netted $995.00 from their ATricky Tray.@

Mr. Finegan also nominated Mrs. Lina Schleidigger and

Mr. Duke Mortimore as Montague=s Senior Female and Senior Male

for the year 2001. The Committee agreed.

Residents:

Residents from New Myrtle Drive again addressed the Committee regarding the ownership and correct name of New Myrtle Drive.

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo explained to them that this question has come up many times in the past and he and the Committee felt it was time to do a road assessment, bring the road up to Township Standard and settle this matter once and for all. The engineering would have to be done before the cost of doing this work could be determined.

Al Gorlack:

Mr. Gorlack asked the Committee if there was any way the late fees on his taxes could be waived as he was having trouble retrieving his money from his investments as his broker=s office was destroyed in the World Trade Center bombings.

Committeeman Zitone stated that he felt under the circumstances this was a reasonable request.

Committeeman Zitone made a motion that the tax fines for this period should be waived contingent upon the legality of such an action.

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo seconded the motion.

The motion was carried by a unanimous roll call vote:

Ayes: Committeewoman Kaman, Committeeman Zitone,

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo, Mayor Butto

Nays: None

Absent: Committeeman Krebs

Residents - Grandview Terrace

Residents from Grandview Terrace addressed the Committee with concerns regarding the proposed connecting road between

Mountain Top Road and Grandview Terrace. Mayor Butto assured them that after an engineering study was done, it was decided that it would not be practical to connect these two roads.

Steven Wack

Mr. Wack spoke to the Committee regarding a program call ECHO which is administered through NORWESCAP. This program deals with allowing small residential buildings to be placed on the property of approved residents for the purpose of having their dependent parents live close to them. The Committee agreed to have

Eric Snyder look into it.

Maor Butto asked if there was anyone else who wished to speak.

There was not.

Deputy Mayor Barbagallo made a motion to close public participation.

Committeeman Zitone seconded the motion.

The motion was carried by a unanimous voice vote.

Committeewoman Kaman seconded the motion.

The motion was carried by a unanimous voice vote.

The meeting closed at 10:20 p.m.
